Since our move back to the upper west side, my husband and I try to go to central park as often as we can. Walking around the reservoir is my favourite morning activity. I often see few brown swans there. They remind me of a childhood memory where my grandparents had 2 pairs of black and white swans in the ponds. I remember the beauty of wide wings and elegant shapes. Sadly some breeds are still in endangered category. So, I decided to create “Swan Swing in The Pond” for my ecopatterns 2010 collection.

One more important thing for new fans and readers, a portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to WWF.

“We are Hyacinth, too.” is the new member of ecopatterns 2010 collection. My hubby will be adding art print, note card and mounted print into our online shop ecopatterns and my etsy soon, so stay tune!

This feels like revisiting my baby from 2009. If you are fans of ecopatterns, you are probably familiar with this tall animal that I designed last year, the giraffe. I’d like to re-introduce my giraffe with another little one in a pair for the 2010 collection. I adjusted it a little bit here and there from the original line art that I made for t-shirts adding the little cutie to keep the big one company. I guess the big one must’ve told some kind of joke that make the new little friend giggle up there.

I finally finished my sea otters painting on a rainy day because I couldn’t go play anywhere. When I started researching sea otters, I automatically thought that these little guys really like to play while they are swimming and napping in the water. Unfortunately, people hunt them so often for fur and they have to run away from the predators in the sea. That’s the reason they are still categorized as endangered.

Swirls of fun may not happen often because of man’s greed. The number of their population shocks me the most and it also inspired me to create this piece. I have moments in my head when I think about “whales”; but I also continue research about them to learn more. The movement underwater of these mammals are as beautiful as ballerinas performing under the sea. I hope whaling people rethink how they are treating the largest mammals on earth.

Yesterday I tried a new venue at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn with my artist friends. I have to say that I got a good response for my artwork and I’d like to thank everyone who stopped by and showed some love for my work. I’ll definitely visit Brooklyn to spread awareness for endangered animals again.
